Tolulope Oloruntoba, otherwise known as T.Love, is one of the gospel artistes in the country. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, he speaks about the industry and his career
What has been happening to your music career lately?
I have been making efforts to expand the talent God has given to me as a vessel. It has been an awesome experience, though there were some challenges. God has been helping us to push further. The year has been a busy one and we have been able to ensure that we experience progress in the industry.
Do you think gospel music is enough to win souls for Christ?
Yes, it is enough, especially when the song is powered and backed up by the word of God. My style of music is classified as gospel Hip-Hop, yet the contents of my works are all based on the Bible. Whatever I sing must have a reflection of the scripture; it must be inspiring and touching. So, the inspirations from God are essential because what we do is not ordinary.
Are you saying any gospel song that doesn’t have reflection of the Bible cannot win souls?
The fact is that any gospel song that is not backed up by God or composed through His inspirations can never win soul, it is a mere entertainment.
What is your assessment of the industry?
The gospel music industry is now saturated with different kinds of gospel musicians, but I believe things will still get better and have more impact on people because people are now realising what really constitutes gospel music.
What do you think can be done to sanitise the industry?
I think we need to get the right people for the ministry, not people that came to make wealth and fame. This is why the Gospel Musicians Association of Nigeria (GOMAN) has a lot of work to do. There was a time a gospel artiste was screened out of the industry because of his way of dressing and lifestyle. Even some churches are not developing their assets. They prefer to spend huge amount on popular faces than promoting the striving ones.
How have you been able to improve the image of gospel music?
The major thing is for us to keep praying for the growth of the gospel industry and all of us should kick against any artiste that is defiling the industry. What we do is sensitive. We are different from the secular musicians. So, our songs and lifestyles must be exemplary.
How has it been as a gospel musician?
God has been helping me and the support of my parents and fans. It is a call which I have been able to conform to. I pray for more grace as I continue to excel in the ministry.
What is your greatest challenge?
I don’t see any challenge because the journey has just started. Irrespective of the challenge that comes my way, I believe God’s grace is sufficient for me and His mercy will surely speak for me all time.
How many works do you have to your credit?
I have about 15 works. In fact, I just released another album last month. Some of my songs include I will praise thee O Lord, Asiko mi tide, Moseba fori ade, Super God, Tugba Praise1, Aditu Eledumare, We give You Thanks, Praise the Lord, My father and Tungba Praise 2.
What message do you have for gospel music lovers?
I want them to realise that they cannot serve two masters. It is high time we rediscovered ourselves and led a righteous life. We should always have the fear of God in all areas of our life.
