FUOYE alumni promise support for institution’s development

Published by

The Alumni Association of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has promised to deploy their influence and networks to facilitate programmes and projects that will help in transforming the university into a world-class institution.

The new global president, Taye Adebisi-Ojo, spoke while delivering his inaugural address during the inauguration of the new leadership of the association held at the weekend in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The new officers of the Alumni Association are Motunrayo Oyedele (Vice President), Femi Esan (General Secretary), Amure Segun Emmanuel (PRO), Victor Daramola (Ass. PRO), Promise Eniola Olugbeje (Social Secretary) and Ojo Isaac Sanmi (Treasurer).

Others include Akinyemi David Oluwaseun (Financial Secretary), Salahundeen Teslim Ayowale (Ass. General Secretary) and Ige Kehinde Abimbola (Welfare Officer)

Speaking during the ceremony, the Global President of the Association, Taye Adebisi-Ojo, stated that the graduates are committed to working with the university’s authorities to ensure an appreciable improvement in teaching, research, and learning.

He explained that nothing is too much to invest in their alma mater, which, he said, molded and made them whatever they have become positively in society.

The Global President called on the management of the university to introduce strategic programs that would make students self-reliant and practically oriented in their fields of study.

He promised to bridge the gaps among members for mutual development.

According to him, “I understand the pain of silence and disconnection. This administration will not only institutionalise town halls and feedback channels; we will expand the alumni presence beyond the campus. We will establish State Chapters and Global Branches, ensuring that whether you are in Ado-Ekiti, Lagos, Abuja, or the diaspora, you remain actively connected to your alma mater and to one another.

“Also, we will advocate relentlessly for your professional future. I have heard your concerns about transcripts, certificates, postgraduate processes, and career direction. Having personally supported many graduates in navigating these challenges, I pledge that this Alumni Association will become your first point of advocacy.

“We will build a robust digital alumni hub for networking, job opportunities, and collaboration. We will expand scholarship schemes, mentorship programmes, and professional guidance because our success as alumni must be measured not just by graduation, but by impact.

“Finally, we will collectively secure our future.

We must move decisively from dues to development. One-time dues alone cannot sustain a visionary Alumni Association. We will launch an Alumni Endowment Fund and establish an Alumni Business Network to pool ideas, capital, and opportunities.

“Through strategic partnerships with the private sector and corporate institutions, we will create sustainable financial wings strong enough to carry this association far into the future.”

Speaking, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of FUOYE, Professor Abayomi Fasina, congratulated the new alumni executives and urged them to contribute their quota towards the growth and development of the university.

Fasina called on the alumni members not allow themselves to be used against the management, soliciting their support for the incoming Vice Chancellor, Professor Olalekan Ogunwole.

In his remarks, Professor Ogunwole, commended the old students for showing interest in the development of the university, confirming that their roles in making the university better cannot be overemphasised.

He confirmed that the university is one of the most sought-after by prospective students across the country, based on the introduction of conventional practices that had enhanced moral and academic excellence.

Ogunwole in his lecture titled ‘Building Our Future Together: The FUOYE Way as the Bedrock of a New Era’, assured the alumni that under his leadership, the institution would experience more transformation in the area of talents discovery, research and community service.
