Fugar women seek spiritual solace over perceived neglect

Aggrieved women from Fugar, the hometown of former Chief of General Staff, Admiral Mike Akhigbe  and the headquarters of Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, took to the streets recently in search of divine solutions to alleged marginalisation of the community.

The agrarian town is also the hometown of former Edo State deputy governor, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, who was also Chief of Staff to  former President Goodluck Jonathan

Marching round the main streets in defiance of the early morning rain, the spokesperson for the women, who was simply identified as Madam Emike, explained that their resolve to seek divine intervention to the myriad of problems confronting the community was borne out of the realisation that the fate of Fugar is one that defies human comprehension.

Bemoaning the series of ill-luck that befell the community, Madam Emike traced the source of their worries to the neglect of the community by successive administrations, which led to the collapse of the local economy and the diversion of critical projects earlier earmarked for the community to other places.

While praying fervently for divine intervention, the spokesperson deplored the menace of Fulani herdsmen, who, she said, had laid a siege to the community thereby preventing the locals in the mainly agrarian community from going to their farms.

Speaking in  Etsako dialect,  the women cited the example of Nazareth Hospital which is now comatose , even as the few commercial banks operating there had since closed down, leaving in its trail  decadence and desolation.

They also accused successive administrations of marginalising Fugar in the scheme of things, stating further that  after casting their votes in each election cycle for the preferred party and candidates, the benefits which ought to accrue to Fugar community are diverted elsewhere.
