Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has filed a N2 billion defamation lawsuit against the immediate past Head of Service of the state, Dr. George Nwaeke, and Channels Television.
Ehie is asking the court, presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo, to award N2 billion in damages in his favour, following a television broadcast aired on Channels Television on March 29. He claims the broadcast, made by Dr. Nwaeke, was baseless, malicious, and defamatory.
At the court session on Thursday, Ehie’s counsel, Tuduru Edeh (SAN), filed for a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants—either directly or through their agents, associates, or representatives—from making further publications or circulating the alleged libelous content to the public or any individual.

The senior advocate also sought an order compelling the defendants to retract the publication and issue a public apology to Ehie. He further requested that the apology be broadcast on Channels Television, another TV network, and published in two national newspapers.
Ruling on the application, Justice Jumbo granted the requests and ordered all parties in the suit to refrain from making any further public comments on the matter pending the final determination of the case.
The matter was adjourned to June 4, 2025, for mention and further proceedings.
