The Executive Chairman of the Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State, Hon. Prince Marcel Amadioha, has set up a flood committee.
This is in line with forecasts from the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and directives from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
The 10-member committee, drawn from across the communities in the council area, is headed by Hon. Augustine Achor Ejizu as chairman.
The Executive Chairman, while inaugurating the committee at the LGA headquarters in Mmahu Egbema, advised residents to take immediate precautions against potential flooding to prevent disaster.
He also advised residents living in high-risk areas to relocate to safer locations, ensure proper waste disposal, and keep drainage systems clear.
Hon. Amadioha urged the communities to always keep abreast of weather forecasts and follow evacuation instructions promptly.
The Chairman identified some of the high-risk communities to include Egbema, Mmahu, Obiakpu, Opuoma, Oloshi, Obuomadike, Assah, and Awarrah.
