The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against travelling abroad without valid passports, visas and other required travel documents.
In a public alert posted on X on Monday, DCI AS Akinlabi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), said travelling without proper documentation is illegal and could expose individuals to serious risks.
The agency stressed that all international travel must be undertaken with a valid passport, visa where required, and other approved immigration documents.
According to the NIS, bypassing official immigration procedures or using unauthorised border routes is a violation of Nigerian law.
The service also expressed concern over the increasing number of fraudulent migration schemes targeting Nigerians, especially young people seeking opportunities abroad.
It said criminal networks often lure unsuspecting victims with promises of jobs, education, or better living conditions in foreign countries.
“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the service warned, adding that no legitimate travel process bypasses established immigration procedures or official border posts.
The NIS urged Nigerians to be cautious when considering travel or relocation opportunities and to verify all offers through official channels.
It also advised members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest Immigration Service office or other relevant security agencies.
The agency further warned Nigerians against dealing with unregistered travel agents or individuals promoting irregular migration.
