THE Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has commended the efforts of the Federal Government on development of road and rail infrastructures in the country.
El-Rufai, who spoke during a zoom conference to mark the 55th birthday of the Minister of Transportation, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja, said the Federal Government has achieved so much in transportation sector of the economy through the minister.
The conference was anchored by the former director-general of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside.
Speaking further, Governor El-Rufai, described Amaechi as a politician with a great personality, noting that he was proud to be associated with the minister.
He also said Amaechi’s leadership charisma endeared him to Mr. President despite opposition against him.
He noted that Amaechi had become the first Nigerian to hold the position of the Minister of Transportation twice and was able to achieve so much within the period because of his unique qualities of inclusiveness.
“President muhammadu Buhari loves Amaechi, he loves him like a son, he trusts him absolutely and this is why in spite of all opposition and many attempts to create Amaechi in bad light, he twice selected him to lead his campaign and also as the Minister of Transportation.
“Amaechi’s key leadership quality is the sense of inclusion. He likes to bring everyone on board. He loves teamwork and he likes to empower people to put in their best and he doesn’t pretend to know it all, he doesn’t try to do everything.”
He added that Amaechi is one of the few politicians from the Niger Delta that is Pan Nigeria, who likes to be inclusive and wants to bring everyone on board for things to be done.
“You can see that in the ministry of transport. I don’t think in the history of Nigeria, there had been any Minister of Transportation that has been able to achieve the landmark Amaechi has achieved in difficult circumstances,” he said.
Also speaking, the Plateau State governor, Simon Lalong, applauded Amaechi for his commitment to deliver on his mandate in the transportation sector in the country, regretting that the outbreak of Coronavirus has made it difficult for friends and well-wishers of the minister from coming together.
He commended the organisers of the zoom birthday conference while also encouraging Amaechi to be resolute in his efforts to transform the transportation sector in the country.
