All is set for the financial technology competition, Naija SDGs Hackathon which is aimed at assisting the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The hackathon will bring together developers, designers, product managers, and other tech enthusiasts to build tech solutions for payments, financial inclusion, accountability and credibility, security and privacy to impact the realisation of the SDGs directly.
According to a statement released by AfricaHacks, the first of its kind competition in the country, FinTech for SDGs (Sustainable Development goals) Hackathon will help to address pressing local and global challenges to promote sustainable development goals.
The statement added that young Nigerians accredited for the competition will compete for prizes and benefits worth N30 million from March 25, 2021.
Special Assistant to the Vice President on Innovation, Ife Adebayo, was quoted as saying the, “achievement of the SDG goals is an important endeavour, while encouraging “Nigerians aged 18-35 years to be part of the challenge.”
Speaking on the use of Hackathons for rapid idea validation and company creation, Head of Sustainability at Access Bank, Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, said that, “Access Bank supports hackathons because of its potential to impact the realisation of the SDGs directly.”
She added that, “technological innovation improves the customer experience and drives growth for the economy. At Access Bank, we are driven by our passion to make a positive impact on lives and the economy using tech-based solutions.”

Founder of AfricaHacks, Uchi Uchibeke, added that, “organisers and partners will work with the top projects to transform them into products and companies. The resulting products and companies will create a job for the developers and their families and increase the country’s GDP.”
The Naija SDG Hackathon is created by Financial Centre For Sustainability, Lagos and Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre (NCIC) in partnership with AfricaHacks and Access Bank and supported by the Office of the Vice President of Nigeria.
