Fayose pays unscheduled visit to Segun Oni

Published by

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Sunday, paid a surprise visit to a former governor of the state and the Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Segun Oni, at his home in Ifaki-Ekiti.

Fayose, who visited Chief Oni at about 2.30pm on the day, had his Chief of Staff, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, in tow.

Explaining the visit of the governor, whom he said went with only three vehicles in his convoy, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr.  Idowu Adelusi, said “he and Segun Oni had a useful discussion in which Governor Fayose said that a governor is the leader of all.”

According to Adelusi, Fayose had said “leadership comes first, Ekiti comes first and leadership is about sacrifice to make for the purpose of unity. That is exactly what I am doing.”

Adelusi added that Fayose had said “there is a difference between leadership and politics. To me, Ekiti comes first, every leader willing to make Ekiti first, I will visit him. I am the governor of the state and everybody is my subject.”

He said: “My visit to Segun Oni has nothing to do with politics. When it comes to how to move Ekiti forward, we must firstly remove our political garment.”

He said Segun Oni warmly received Governor Fayose and had said that he was “overwhelmed with the visit which he said was brotherly.”

One had said: “It is a brotherly visit. I am happy for that. It is welcome development and good for Ekiti State. We are both leaders of the state.”

Shortly after he was sworn-in as governor in October 2014, Fayose had restored the portrait of former Governor Oni at the governor’s office, which had earlier been removed by former Governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration.

Fayose had also announced then that all Oni’s benefits and privileges as a former governor of the state were to be restored.
