The Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Captain Hamisu Rabiu Yadudu, has assured that the ongoing upgrade of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, will be completed within the stipulated earlier scheduled period.
He, however, assured of passengers’ safety, security and comfort in the aviation sector in 2020.
Enugu airport was shut down three months ago to give room for the repairs of the runway and other renovations, following concerns raised about the safety of lives and property.
Yadudu, who gave the assurance during an event organised by Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) to mark the end of 2019, pointed out that the contractor carrying out the Enugu airport upgrade, PW Nigeria Limited, was on top of the job with the FAAN project management team always on site to monitor the progress.
According to Yadudu “It is going very well because we have a perfect team working with us. PW is already a reputable company and they are taking the project the FAAN project management team is always on site. The team from headquarters regularly visits there. Yesterday, they came back from there. Then, there is a project team on ground and of course, our consultants. Most importantly, our host, the state government has been very wonderful. We have no issues and no complaints whatsoever.”
Speaking on 2019, Yadudu maintained that FAAN had 100 per cent achievement and that they were all very happy, saying: “We have challenges but the important thing is that all the ground work is on ground. All the planning and development are in progress. Some have already been recorded and we are making progress.”
For the Regional General Manager/ Airport Manager, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Mrs Victoria Shin-Aba, while applauding the workers of the airport, she declared that they have been able to increase the ambience of the 40-year old airport.
On the reasons behind the get together, Shin-Aba said “We have reasons to celebrate 2019. This party is for all of us. At the end of the day, I appreciate my Heads of Department because they have been there all the way. Success recorded last year is given to all of us.”
