Ex-corps members donate face masks, sanitisers, others to churches, mosques

AS part of efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state, three ex-corps members have donated reusable face masks, sanitisers, liquid soap and washing bowls to churches and mosques in Adamawa State.

Dr Oluwapelumi Olowookere who completed his one year mandatory service in July 2020 led his colleagues, Adams Ndanusa and Dr Emeka Ogbonna to the religious institutions in Bachure and Luggere areas of Jimeta Yola.

Olowookere listed the benefiting institutions to include Central Mosques 1 and 2 in Bachure, St Monica Catholic Church, Bachure, Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Bachure, Jesus Saves Fellowship International Luggere, and United Methodist Church in Nigeria, Luggere.

The project tagged, ‘COVID-19 Project Preventing Spread in Religious Houses’ was supported by Mallow Wellness Initiative and funded by The Pollination Project, California, USA.

Olowookere said the project was premised on the need to avoid possible widespread transmission of SARS-CoV2 infections associated with large gatherings, through adherence to relevant advisories guiding religious worship.

He said the team distributed reusable cloth face masks, hand sanitisers, liquid soap, hand wash set-up (metal frame, bucket and bowl) to each of the worship centres.

Congregants and religious leaders were also educated on appropriate guidelines guiding worship in religious houses, while flyers/posters printed in Hausa, Fulfulde and English languages were distributed to enlighten the residents on the novel virus.

Leaders of the benefiting religious houses in their separate remarks expressed appreciation to the organisers and sponsors for counting them worthy of such an impactful gesture.

The presiding pastor of Jesus Saves Fellowship International, Yola branch, Reverend Mbotor Patrick, remarked that the church was highly favoured to have been considered for such a gesture The Imam of Ansar-UrDeen Mosque, Luggere, Mallam Abdullahi Ismail, appreciated the gesture, adding that the health sensitisation would help in dispelling the unfounded claims about the virus.

Reverend Babangida of LCCN Bachure expressed his delight and appreciation, stating that the children’s church would find it immensely useful.

Mallam Yusuf Kolawa of Central Mosque Jimeta-Yola also expressed appreciation on behalf of the Mosque’s Council.
