The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has warned that even doctors who are medically qualified to treat people must consult pharmacists on the right drugs to apply for various ailments.
This was just as the agency warned that on no account should anyone take any drug that is not recommended for or prescribed by a pharmacist.
The warning came as the PSN marked the Pharmacy Week 2021, a yearly event meant for pharmacists to “reinvent the profession in the minds of the public and let them know who pharmacists are.”
Speaking at the event, Siyaka Onimisi Idris, who is the chairman, Sub-committee on Media and Publicity for the World Pharmacists Day organised by the Kano State branch of PSN, said the only port of call when it comes to the use of drugs and what drugs is the pharmacist.
“We are using the World Pharmacists Day to advocate that when you have any issues with drugs or you have a drug-related matter, do not visit any premises other than a
pharmacy; your health is at risk when not handled by professionals.”
According to him, the theme for this year’s World Pharmacists Day was “Pharmacy: Always trusted for your health.”
He disclosed that the three-day event was heralded by series of activities, including the donation of drugs and consumables to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Sanusi Specialist Hospital by the Association of Lady Pharmacists – a technical arm of the PSN.
