Ethiopian Airlines has pledged to reinforce its good relationship with Nigeria as it announced plans to resume flight to Enugu the eastern Heartland of Nigeria to join in the celebration of October 1st Independence Day.
“October 1st is the Nigerian Independence day and the flight to Enugu on that day will reinforce Ethiopian Airlines good relationship with Nigeria since the first flight to Nigeria in 1960”.
According to a statement issued by the airline’s General Manager in Nigeria, Shimeles Arage, the 3 times weekly flight will be operated with the airline’s B787 Dreamliner.
The airline will initially operate into Enugu on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Ethiopian Airlines stopped flights to Enugu in 2019 when the Nigerian Aviation Authorities closed the airport to refurbish the airport runway.
Before the closure of the airport for runway repairs, Ethiopian was the only international airline operating into Enugu.
The resumption of flights to Enugu by Ethiopian is coming after the reopening of the airport earlier closed for its runway upgrade in 2019.
While embargo on domestic flights into the airport was lifted in 2020, the federal government lifted embargo on international flights in August 2021.
