Hundreds of prominent community members and old students of Gbongan High School in Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State on Thursday held a lying-in-state service in honour of the first principal of the school, Dr Joseph Omolayo Ojeleye in the community.
The programme which was held amidst merriment and happiness was accompanied with varieties of activities ranging from songs of praises, eulogy and encomiums to appreciate the good life, the departed soul lived while on Earth.
Speaking at the event, the chairman, Board of Trustees for the Old Students Association of the school, Mr Aderemi Louis Oyedele, charged the state government to immortalise the deceased in recognition of his contribution to the development of the school and the society at large.
He specifically charged the government to rename Gbongan High School as “Ojeleye Memorial High School” to encourage others who take delight in adding value to humanity and society.
He charged the new generation to emulate the late principal so they can impact their immediate environment positively.
Also, in his own remark, the chairman, Board of Governors of the school, Professor Adebooye Clement described the programme organised in honour of the deceased as heroic and deserving.
He described the first principal of the school as a lettered and a teacher of teachers whose memory would linger in the minds of the progressives and those who appreciate the works of a genius till eternity.
Also, the House of Representatives member representing Ayedaade, Irewole and Isokan Federal Constituency at the lower chamber, Mrs Taiwo Oluga, described the deceased as an inspirational motivator.
Meanwhile, the lawmaker facilitated the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) established by the Federal Goverment to provide ICT tools and services to enhance e-learning via a letter signed by Jaafar Yahaya Ahmed for Head, Information Technology Projects, USPF.
The letter addressed to the Principal, Gbongan Community High School, reads in part: “One of the projects being executed by the USPF over the years is the Digital Nigeria Centre (DNC). The objective of this project is to improve learning and research by promoting the connection of government schools across the nation to broadband internet.
“Consequently, the USP Secretariat wishes to inform you that your school has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the USPF 2021 DNC Project. This nomination was facilitated by Hon. Taiwo Olukemi Oluga – Member, House of Representatives, Abuja.
“Arrangements are now at an advanced stage for the commencement of the delivery and subsequent installations of the infrastructure and associated devices/services.”
