Elijah Oyeyinka receives 2022 ICAN Merit Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting

Elijah Oyeyinka, a distinguished finance professional, was honored with the prestigious Merit Award by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Saturday, April 30, 2022.

The award was presented during ICAN’s Annual Dinner and Awards, held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event celebrated individuals and companies that have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s finance and business sectors.

This year’s awards ceremony was particularly competitive, with over 500 nominations across various categories, ranging from individual professionals to major corporations.

The rigorous selection process involved an independent panel of judges made up of industry leaders, chartered accountants, and renowned experts in corporate governance and finance. The panel carefully assessed each nominee based on criteria such as impact, innovation, leadership, and excellence in the accounting and finance sectors.

Oyeyinka, who at the time was the Financial Controller at SKLD, stood out for his exceptional leadership in financial reporting and corporate governance. His contributions were instrumental in transforming SKLD’s financial processes, ensuring adherence to global standards, and driving the company’s continued success.

The award recognises his role in setting new benchmarks for financial reporting practices in Nigeria.

The 2022 ICAN Annual Awards were attended by key figures in Nigeria’s business landscape, including ICAN’s 57th President, Mrs. Comfort Olu Eyitayo. In addition to recognizing individual professionals, several companies were also celebrated for their outstanding contributions to business innovation and sustainable practices.

Key winners from the 2022 ICAN Annual Dinner Awards include; Omnibiz, winning the 2022 Most Innovative Retail Organization Award for its groundbreaking work in retail distribution.

Shoprite; awarded the 2022 Retail CEO of the Year Award for its leadership in the retail sector.

MTN; recognised with the 2022 Best Retail Organization in Technology Adoption Award for integrating cutting-edge technology into its operations.

So Fresh; received the 2022 Best Retail Organization in Sustainable Practice Award for its efforts in promoting sustainability in food retail.

Oyeyinka, while accepting his merit award, expressed gratitude to ICAN and the panel of judges, stating, “This award is a recognition of the tireless efforts of my colleagues at SKLD. I am honored to be among this year’s recipients and to be part of such an esteemed profession.”

Sponsored by leading financial institutions, including Access Bank, PwC Nigeria, and Deloitte, the ICAN Merit Award is one of the highest honors in the Nigerian finance sector. It acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated exceptional ability, leadership, and innovation in their respective fields.

This year’s event also included notable attendees like Mr. Olukayode Pitan, CEO of the Bank of Industry (BOI), and his wife, Dr. Funmi Pitan, further emphasizing the prestige and importance of the occasion.

Oyeyinka’s achievement in receiving the ICAN Merit Award highlights his leadership in finance and underscores his contributions to the future of financial reporting and corporate governance in Nigeria.
