Ekiti traditional chief murdered in own farm

TENSION is now mounting in Iroko and Oke Ora communities in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State as a traditional chief known as the Arisawe of Iroko-Ekiti, Chief Adewole Ajayi, was killed on his farm.

Sources said the incident occurred on Thursday at Chief Ajayi’s farm said to be located at the neighbouring Oke-Oro community.

Sources claimed that the victim had gone to his farm at dawn, on Thursday, and had allegedly found a man stealing his yams.

An indigene of Iroko, Mr Johnson Kayode, alleged that the thief had shot the community leader in the hips, while he tried to stop and apprehend the alleged thief.

Kayode also claimed that the alleged thief, after committing the offence, disappeared and that he had not been seen yet by anyone in the community.

He said: “The two are having their farms along the same route, but Chief Ajayi went to farm at about 6am yesterday and found him there. May be in an attempt to arrest him, he quickly shot him with a Dane gun in the hips and disappeared.

“But unfortunately for him, he ran into the bush  and they have not seen him since then . He has refused to come out of his hideout, may be his conscience is chasing him around.

“But when the news of the death broke out , people started probing into those that went to farm early and that was how some testified that the suspect was seen going to farm  and people started suspecting him from there,” he explained.

However, police in Ijero Division are said to have mounted a manhunt for one Dele Ojo Aro, a native of Oke Oro for allegedly pulling the trigger, killed the chief and fled into the bush.
