Some secondary school students in Ekiti State have been trained on how to convert waste to wealth.
The training which took place at the Mary Immaculate Girls Grammar school Ado-Ekiti was done as part of activities marking the 2022 International Women’s Day celebration.
The founder of Triple G Eco Revival Solutions, Oluwaseyi Ebenezer, who charged the students to always stand up for their rights, said it became imperative to identify with female students as the world celebrates International Women’s Day.
She revealed that the increasing heaps of waste in society is worrisome, calling on the stakeholders to protect the environment in the interest of the people and their health.
According to her, “The training was to reduce the huge non-biodegradable materials from the environment while empowering youths in the society.
The environmentalist said that “the training had become imperative in view of the huge plastic and nylon wastes in drainages as a result of indiscriminate dumping of wastes by some residents of the state.
“The training was aimed at reducing plastics and nylons from the environment, adding that the major aim of the training was to improve the wellbeing of people by empowering them.”
She appealed to the government all levels and other organisations to support and partner the group in a bid to engage more youths and women, “by providing locally fabricated machines to help the youths become self-reliant.”
An official of the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA), Mrs Foluso Aladetimehin called on the students to be conscious of their environment, and eschew indiscriminate dumping of refuse to avert environmental disasters.
Also, the principal of the school commended the founder of Triple G for organizing the training for the students which she said would go a long way in helping to address the environmental challenges in the society.
