CANDIDATE of the Mega Party in the governorship election in Ekiti State, Mr Bisi Omoyeni, has revealed why he resigned as the Deputy Governor of the state and returned to a Bank as its Group Managing Director/Chief Executive in December 2005.
Omoyeni, while addressing supporters of the party during a campaign tour of Moba and Ikole local government areas, said the board of Odua Investment Company Limited, the major owners of a Bank had appealed to him to return to the bank to serve the people of the South West region and Nigeria, instead of serving just the people of Ekiti as deputy governor.
He said: “A letter was written by the Board of Odua Investment Company Limited to Governor Fayose on December 5, 2005, seeking for my release as the deputy governor. The letter by the Odua Group says they identified my qualities and leadership ability and integrity as a former Executive Director of the bank.
“They said my service was needed to help the bank complete the banking consolidation process because the then management of the bank had failed to complete the process for 17 months leaving just only one month for the bank to meet CBN requirements or be liquidated like other banks.
“I was able to complete the process with my team within 18days when we merged a Bank and National Bank successfully.”

Mr Omoyeni was appointed the Deputy Governor by the then Governor Ayodele Fayose in 2005, however, within 3 months in office as the Deputy Governor, he resigned to take up the Bank top job.
Omoyeni told his supporters that he would bring the same dedication and competence he used at a Bank that he wanted to bring to develop Ekiti.
The Mega Party candidate added that he would work to ensure the state had “a new lease of life and economically buoyant to be able to meet all her obligations.”
He also assured the youths, workers, pensioners, farmers and traders of better opportunities as the state would prosper under his leadership and the people will rejoice when a righteous leader is on the throne.
Omoyeni also assured pensioners that he would ensure they get the arrears of their unpaid pensions within few months in office.
He said: “Pension and gratuity are inalienable rights of our senior citizens who have served the state well. They should not be made to suffer in their old age.”
