Ekiti State government has denied that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had discovered that N59.6 million meant for projects under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the state was diverted by Mr Abiodun Agbele.
In denying a media report alleging the above on Tuesday, the state government said “contract for the supply of nine units of ambulance, motorcycles and other medical equipment was duly awarded to BYKD Consult Limited and the contract was executed as awarded.”
The government, in a statement by the Special Assistant to Governor Ayodele Fayose on Public Communications and New Media, Mr Lere Olayinka, advised the EFCC to stop its media trial and investigations by trial and error, adding that “claiming that Abiodun Agbele bought choice cars from Affordable Cars Limited when there are records of purchase of nine ambulances from the auto firm is irresponsible. For the avoidance of doubt, EFCC should kindly tell Nigerians the type of exotic cars that were bought with the MDGs funds. Are ambulances now exotic cars?”
Meanwhile, the APC)in Ekiti State has alleged that Governor Fayose is spending the state’s money to prosecute his legal matter with the EFCC.
Publicity Secretary of Ekiti APC, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun, said in a statement in Ado-Ekiti, on Tuesday, that “the party is in possession of fact that the N22 million spent to charter airplane that conveyed his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome from Lagos to Akure airport was allegedly taken from the state’s treasury.”
Olatunbosun said: “We gathered from a reliable source that a warrant for the payment of N22 million being the cost of chartered aircraft that flew Ozekhome twice from Lagos to Akure was issued and the money released almost immediately by the Office of the Accountant General.
“The N22 million is outside of the legal fee, which has been reportedly paid to Ozekhome by the state government, to pursue a personal matter for the governor whose private account was frozen.”
But the state government said the allegation “is baseless and untrue,” saying “the APC is well known for its lies and half truths and that kind of allegation can only come from the dirty mind of APC members in Ekiti.”
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Idowu Adelusi, who reacted to the allegation, said “there is nothing like that .
He said: “the APC should stop disturbing the sensibility of Nigerians and face squarely the myriads of problems confronting the people because Nigerians are hungry and have never had a bad government as this.”
