The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday arraigned a lecturer at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Moses Peter Adoga over alleged diversion of study grant to personal use.
The suspect who is a lecturer in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science of the State University was arraigned for diverting TETFUND meant for his PhD to personal use.
The anti-graft agency said that a petitioner (whose name was not mentioned) claimed that the suspect obtained a Tertiary Education Trust Fund, (TETFUND) grant to the sum of N19,756,200 millions through Nasarawa State University to study PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Bangor University, the United Kingdom but diverted the money.

According to the spokesperson for EFCC, Makurdi Zonal Office Okeanu Nnwanyinma in the statement issued in Makurdi yesterday noted that the suspect pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the one count charge read to him.
According to the statement of the anti-graft spokesperson, ‘the prosecution counsel, Mary Onoja prayed for a date for the commencement of trial, also that the defendant is remanded in prison custody pending the hearing of his bail application.
“However, the defence counsel, S. K. Sheltu orally applied for bail for his client.
“The trial judge, Justice Simon O. Aboki granted the defendant bail in the sum of N2, 000, 000 (Two Milion Naira) with two sureties in like sum.
“The defendant is to surrender his international passport to the registrar of the Court and adjourned the matter till July 10, 2019, for the commencement of trial.
