THIS is certainly not the best of times for Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki as a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the national leadership of the party has demanded his expulsion from the party over alleged dodgy academic credentials.
Governor Obaseki was on Friday disqualified by the Screening Committee of the ruling party over his academic credentials and for taking the ruling party to court amongst others.
Speaking with journalists in Benin City on Saturday, the factional chairman, Col David Imuse (rtd) said it became necessary for the State Working Committee had no choice but to recommend the expulsion of the governor, Mr Anslem Ojezua, the factional chairman loyal to Governor Obaseki and one Dr Aisosa Amadasun to the National Working Committee due to their alleged anti-party activities.
Imuse said that the duo also violated articles 21, sub-section D5 of the APC constitution due to the several court cases against the party.
He said: “Godwin Obaseki, Anselm Ojezua and some other persons have gone to court, violating articles 21, sub-section D5 of the APC construction They have shipped for injunctions and rulings to circumvent the process of law and provisions of our party constitution in defiance of democratic norms.

“In the light of this, the State Working Committee of the APC in Edo State has recommended to the NWC that Goodwin Obaseki, Anselm Ojezua and Dr Aisosa Amadasun should be expelled for violating the provisions of our constitution.”
He added that after the bitter experience of losing the governorship of Bayelsa State in the court after a well-deserved victory in the election, it would be foolhardy to allow a candidate with dodgy and faulty academic credential to fly the party’s flag in the September 19, 2020 election.
The factional chairman said: “Even the holy book admonishes us that affliction shall not arise a second time; wisdom we are told is profitable to direct.”
Ojazua, however, insisted that the action was an illegal contraction and that Imuse has been served with contempt proceeding in the law court.
“We are proceeding with his trial, I’m the state chairman of APC,” he added.
