The Chairman of Labour Party, Mr Abdulkadir Abdulsalam
THE Labour Party has insisted that its former national chairman, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam was suspended and subsequently removed from office in line with the provision of the Party constitution.
The new National chairman of the Party, Dr Mike Omotosho, who spoke in Abuja during the weekend in reaction to some media reports indicating that there was leadership crisis rocking the party.
He said: “Abdulsalam, was suspended in accordance with our constitution by the National Working Committee, the NEC, at a special convention that held on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2017 in Abuja for one, non-payment of staff salaries, forgery, embezzlement, misappropriation, diversion and abuse of office and obtaining by false pretence,”
He disclosed that Salam was already being investigated by relevant security agencies and that update on the investigation would soon be made known to the public through the media.
Omotosho, said the party under his leadership would soon take census of the old members to revalidate while at the same time register new members, adding that the party would revalidate its offices in the 36 states and FCT within 90 days.
He said the party would also conduct congresses in states where the tenure of their offices have elapsed in three years in line with the provision in the 2009 constitution of the party.
He said the party would be repositioned to enable it occupy the political landscape of the nation come 2019, saying this would be done by building internal party democracy and providing coordinated leadership at all levels.
