Drama as suspected kidnapper who  got N200k from N12m ransom accuses colleagues of cheating in court

There was a drama at a court in Yola when a suspected kidnapper, Sadu Ardo Bunkawu, accused his colleagues and members of a kidnapping gang of cheating.

He stated this while standing trial over alleged offences of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping contrary to sections 60 and 248(a) of the state penal code law 2018 before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Yola.

The court was presided by Chief Magistrate Muhammmed Abdullahi Digil.

When the content of the First Information Report was read and interpreted to him in Fulfulde language, the accused pleaded guilty to offences.

The accused, however, said: “I want justice for the injustice melted on me by the other members of my group who conspired to cheat me. They gave me N200,000 only out of the whooping N12 million we collected as ransom for the kidnapping.”

28-year-old Ardo who hails from Filingo village, Gankiri ward in Jada Local Government Area, Adamawa State confessed that the N12 million was paid to them as ransom when they abducted Alhaji Umaru Diffiwa and Alhaji Umaru Babidi of the same community.

He regretted that the operation was a bad outing for him because he eventually lost the N200,000 share he collected while rushing to get home on time.

He explained that the money was paid to seven of them by the family members of their victims, and after the victims were released, he was called and given N200,000 only.

Earlier, prosecutor informed the honourable court that the defendant conspired with six others (names withheld) of various addresses and committed the alleged offence of which he was arraigned.

After the defendant’s plea, the prosecutor prayed the court to adjourn matter to enable them complete investigation and transmit case file to DPP for legal advice.

The court granted the application and adjourned the matter to April 4, 2022.
