The unprecedented and ubiquitous presence of the art of Doba Afolabi, a “NaijaMerican” artist has proved the essence of his birthplace and how far he has gone with his arts representing a touch of Nigeria in the world.
Although not every artist has the opportunity of professional recognition from renown establishment, and most especially the great American Embassy while considering the staggering number of artists of international reputation, one should consider any artist inducted in Art in Embassies program of USA, a great achievement.
According to the artist, he never lobbied for the selection. He was called from the office of the department of state and they brought a truck to transport the piece “mid-day market” to Washington DC from his residence. He later discovered the piece has been flown to the USA Embassy at Guinea Conakry.
Doba Afolabi, whose name is a shortened form of Adedoba Afolabi to enable an easier pronunciation in the foreign world has an extensively deep biography and his works are represented by several renowned galleries in Washington DC while he even has one of them the in-state acquisition of the administrative headquarter city of the USA, precisely in the DC, Government Department of Arts and Humanities.
He is known to several international art marketers where he already had great exhibitions and several states of the USA are used to his work and have testified to the very fact that his achievement knows no leap and bound. His works have also broken the limitation of space and time through God and hard work.
