Bauchi State’s Local Government Area (LGA) has commissioned a new market in Dass, its headquarters, under the BAM initiative aimed at promoting the autonomy of local government administration.
During the commissioning ceremony, Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for Dass Local Government, stated that, in addition to the commissioning of the BAM New Market, a grant empowerment of N50,000,000.00 was provided to selected individuals in the Local Government Area.
He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the people and thanked the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Abdulkadir Mohammed (Wazirin Dass), for enabling effective service through the realization of Local Government Autonomy in the State.
Abubakar Jibo emphasized that this autonomy places them among the few local governments in Nigeria operating independently, without interference, attributing it as the key to their developmental projects.
The Caretaker Chairman noted the timeliness of the occasion amid economic challenges, emphasizing the goal of boosting economic activity through the new market and distributing items and funds totaling N50,000,000.00 to the most needy and vulnerable individuals in the local government.
He assured the people of more forthcoming programs, highlighting the support and freedom received from the Governor.
Abubakar Jibo outlined past initiatives, including providing clean water, renovating schools, and enhancing healthcare facilities, as well as investments in security to ensure relative peace in the local government.
Acknowledging the support from the Emir of Dass, Dr. Usman Bilyaminu Othman, and Hon. Commissioner Alhaji Ahmed Sarki Jalam, he expressed gratitude to the people and pledged to uplift Dass for a better life.
The Commissioner of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Aliyu Sarki Ahmad Jalam, commended the Caretaker Chairman for complementing the administration’s efforts in delivering democracy dividends.
He highlighted the necessity of empowerment programs during times of hardship and thanked the Emir of Dass for honoring the Governor with the Traditional title of Wazirin Dass.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyaminu Othman II, appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for addressing the challenges facing the people and called for continuous support.
