COVID-19: NACA charges HIV patients to follow directives of experts

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has charged people living with HIV to take all necessary precautions given by World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in staying safe from contracting COVID-19.

The Director General of NACA Gambo Gumel Aliyu said “COVID-19 is a serious global respiratory pandemic. People with weak body defence systems suffer serious consequences”.

In a statement issued and signed by the NACA DG, it charged those living with HIV to observe their body system to know when they develop the symptoms of COVID-19 so that early treatment could be administered.

He also told them to stay at home, observe handwashing and personal hygiene and always maintain social distance.

“People living with HIV must continue to take all the necessary precautions given by WHO and NCDC with special emphasis on adherence to ARV medications, minimizing exposure to COVID by staying at home, hand washing and personal hygiene, and social distancing.
