Kwara State deputy governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, has said that the state is ready to contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the event of an outbreak in the state.
Speaking at a state-level training of trainers on infection prevention and control in Ilorin on Monday, the governor said,
“It’s a lot of work, but people had to be sensitised”.

The deputy governor, who is also the chairman, COVID-19 committee in the state, said that “One might not be able to handle the Covid-19 pandemic in a situation with 1,000 cases. This is the truth. That’s why we have to sensitise our people and we hope things will come out well”.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Health, Rasaq Raji, frowned at the development whereby some medical experts were reluctant to attend the training programme, saying medical practitioners would be made to work in the event outbreak occurs.
“It’s better to get trained than not be trained. If one is properly trained, you will help yourself and help the state. In case you’re not properly trained, by the time we have a Covid-19 outbreak, whether you attend the training or not, you will be mandated to work and save lives according to hypocritic code.
“We’ll lay more emphasis on preventive aspect. We don’t even want an outbreak in Kwara State. That’s the level we’re now. But we must prepare”, he said.
The commissioner, who said that effort to prevent the infection is collaborative, added that the state government had been supportive of the plan to contain the pandemic so far.
He said that the state government had put in place an isolation centre in preparation for eventual need, adding that plans are on to expand it.
