COVID-19: I may be forced to lockdown Bauchi again ―Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has threatened that he may be forced to once again lock down the state in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Governor who expressed his annoyance over the present situation of the pandemic in the state regretted that within the last two weeks the number has risen tragically to 131 positive cases from just 10 as of May 29th.

Bala Mohammed lamented that people of the state have refused to adhere to the preventive protocol put in place to check transmission of the infection saying, “people no longer wear the face masks, stop washing of hands with soap and clean water, no use of hands sanitizer as well as no observation of social and physical distancing protocol.”

He insisted that the operations of commercial motorcycles remain banned across the state as one of the measures to curb transmission of the infection assuring however that 1000 units of tricycles to replace the motorcycles.

The Governor expressed sadness that one of the foremost medical Doctors in the state, Dr Mohammed Bello Katagum was lost to the COVID-19 infection in active service of rendering medical treatment to patients.

He then called on religious leaders in the state to continue to use the COVID-19 pandemic as topics of their sermons while traditional rulers are to engage in sensitizing their subjects on the need to adhere to all the preventive protocols put in place by the government.
