The Edo State government on Monday said it vaccinated over 7,960 residents against the Coronavirus pandemic in the state in three days, from last Friday to Sunday.
This was just as the state announced that it had recorded five new deaths and 58 new cases of infection in the same period. The five deaths were said to be unvaccinated individuals.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Osamwonyi Irowa, announced the figure in Benin on Monday at a press briefing on the ways the state government is combating the pandemic.
Irowa enthused that the state had recorded a significant rise in the number of persons willing to take the vaccine.
“We want to appreciate Edo people for the uptake of the vaccines. We are witnessing increasing demand for the vaccine and they are all getting it. We have enough vaccines for Edo people and our target is to hit the roof,” Irowa said.
The permanent secretary however, warned against the purported buying and selling of vaccination cards by some persons without getting inoculated, in a bid to beat the government directive of “no vaccination card no entry” to government offices.
He threatened that anyone caught would be dealt with in accordance with the law of the state.
“When we find any of such, we will investigate appropriately and track the persons involved. We are not encouraging people to get the card only but to get vaccinated. So, if you don’t want to get vaccinated, then don’t go near the cards”, Irowa warned.
He said the state has recorded 58 new cases and five new deaths in the past 72hours.
