Court resumes hearing of two Chief Imams cases in Osun community

The Osun State High Court in Iragbiji, the headquarters of Boripe Local Government Area, resumed hearing on Tuesday for the case regarding the appointment of the Chief Imam of Inisha in the Odo-Otin Local Government Area, a matter that has been pending since 2021.

The appointment has caused significant unrest in the community, leading to a breakdown of order as some residents took the law into their own hands.

Tensions arose after the appointment, as there was a sharp disagreement among Muslims in the community.

While some supported the appointment of Abdulazeez Tijani, others rejected him and favored Alhaji Abdulakeem Mahamadujamiu as their Chief Imam.

As a result of this conflict, the town was left without a Chief Imam for several years until intervention from the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and the League of Imams and Alfas in the state.

During the hearing presided over by Justice G.O. Lawal, counsel for the plaintiff, Mr. Jimoh Abdulmumini, informed the court that two individuals were designated as Chief Imams on the same day, which led to severe disruptions in the town.

One witness, Jimoh Ibrahim, stated in his cross-examination that one Chief Imam was turbaned in the morning and another in the evening at the same central mosque in Inisha, resulting in a crisis.

Justice Lawal has scheduled further hearings on the case for May 7, 2025.
