The complainant, Khadija Lawal, who dragged her husband, Surajo Dauda to the court, had told the court that the defendant failed in discharging his responsibilities as a husband which included feeding, clothing, medical care and shelter.
“I am seven months pregnant but my husband had never given me money for antenatal. We’ve been given the notice to leave the house we are living in because of his inability to pay rent,’’ she lamented.
Lawal, who resides at Tashar Yan-Yaji, Maraban Jos, prayed the court to dissolve their two-year-old marriage as she was no longer interested in the union.
The defendant, also a resident of Maraban Jos denied the claim, saying he tried his best to provide his wife with what he could afford.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case was first heard on Jan. 10 where the defendant was given time to reconcile with his wife.
Dauda, however, reported to the court that he could not settle with his wife and gave her a letter containing one divorce pronouncement.
