Coronavirus: Sokoto government ready to curtail outbreak ― Commissioner

In furtherance to its achievement in Laser fever, Sokoto State government has set up machineries to prevent the spread of outbreak of Coronavirus in any part of the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Muhammad Ali Nname, stated this while addressing journalists on measures put in place by the state government to curtail the outbreak in Sokoto state.

He disclosed that the state government under the Ministry of Health has activated state emergency preparation and response team and activation of a rapid response team.

Others include, the designation of treatment centres, preposition of drugs and other consumables, intensify surveillance activities, pre-positioning of ambulance for patient transport as well as engagement of all relevant stakeholders among others.

According to the Commissioner, “the state will continue to monitor the situation closely, collaborate with relevant agencies like Port Health, and intensify the initial efforts being put in place.

“I urge whoever is sick to as a matter of urgency make him/herself available for proper check-up and treatment at the nearest hospital for proper care”

He further explained that the state government in collaboration with relevant agencies intensified efforts to monitor all the land borders neighbouring other countries to screen movement of people across the border towns.

Dr Nname avverd that the state has entered into agreement with National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state to sensitise drivers and passengers coming into the state.

He reassured residents of the state that the state government will ensure their safety from Coronavirus (Covid 19) or any other deadly disease.

He advised the house public to always verified rumours to know how authentic it is especially on social media before sharing such so as not to create panic in the society.

He also advised those dealing with hand gloves, face mask and other items that can be used for protection against the disease not to take the advantage of the situation to increase their prices so as not make life difficult for the people.
