KOGI State government has distributed hand washing materials to some markets women and government workers as churches in the state refused to comply with government directive over coronavirus.
The commissioner for health, Dr Saka Haruna while distributing the materials over the weekend told Nigerian Tribune that the campaign against coronavirus will be taken to every nook and cranny of the state.
Dr Saka said this during the sensitisation outreach on coronavirus in Lokoja.
The commissioner explained that with the support of Governor Yahaya Bello, measures have been put in place to fight the scourge of the virus.
Items distributed are hand sanitiser, veronica buckets, liquid soap and big bowls
The distribution according to the permanent secretary, Alh. Abubakar Babamaaji Danlami is aimed at encouraging hand washing and a means of preventing the spread of the disease.
Receiving the team in government house Lokoja, the Director General, Government House Administration, Alh. Shaibu Oricha commended the Ministry of Health for the proactive steps taken to avoid the outbreak of the virus.

Alhaji. Oricha advised the people of the state to take their personal hygiene seriously and charged the ministry on awareness creation.
At the office of the State Head of Service, Deaconess Deborah Ogunmola advised the ministry to take the campaign to Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
Deaconess Ogunmola who demonstrated the handwashing exercise advised civil servants to take precautionary measures to safe guide themselves against the disease.
In all the places visited, the people were taught how to wash their hands properly as instructed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Meanwhile, many churches in Lokoja failed to comply with the state government’s stay-at-home directive as worshipers trooped to churches for Sunday service.
When our correspondent visited some of the churches if was discovered that many of the worship centres were filled up and normal service was going on.
At the Catholic Church, worshipers in their hundred troop out for service so also other places of worship.
Other churches including Redeem Christian Church of God (RCCG), Apostolic Church, Baptist and several others also did not comply with the directive.
Some church members who spoke with our correspondent said not that they are not aware of the virus but that they just have to come out and worship God just like any other Sunday service.
