Muslims across Edo State have been admonished to continuously engage in the practice of broad principles and essentials of Islam as contained in the Qur’an and the Al-Hadith of Rasulullah.
The Chief Imam of Benin, Mallam Abdulfatah Enabulele, gave the admonition during the just-concluded Eid-el-Fitr celebration homage to the governor of the state, Godwin Obaseki in Benin City.
He posited that Ramadan fast is only one of the pillars of Islam and noted that Islam does not start and end with Ramadan period as there is Islam after the month.
“In the last one month, Muslims around the globe have engaged in physical and spiritual activities that brought us closer to our creator
“And the central theme of every Ramadan activities is to guard us against evils and sins so that we can attain piety and righteousness.
“Let us continue to imbibe all the moral virtues which we practised in the Ramadan and continue to practise them now that the month of Ramadan has ended. That is the only way we can be regarded as true and sincere believers,” he advised.
The clergyman, tasked Muslims to shun activities capable of tarnishing the image of Islam, adding that, “It is not enough to say or preach that Islam is a peaceful religion.
“This is because our actions speak louder than our words. No matter how much we try to convince people that Muslims are generous, peaceful, tolerant, kind, amicable and charitable, words alone are not convincing enough.
“If our moral values and compassion are not reflected in our actions, the words become meaningless.”
“Demonstrating love, friendship, leniency, tolerance and benevolence is the best way for the beauty of Islam to be seen in our lives with our non-Muslims family members, neighbours, colleagues, workmates, schoolmates and all our fellow human beings that we interact with.”
