After protracted legal tussles, Frank Ibezim was, on Tuesday, sworn in as Senator to represent Imo North senatorial district by Clerk of the Senate, Ibrahim El Ladan.
His appearance at the Senate was sequel to the judgement of the Supreme Court which dismissed two appeals filed by Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and declared Ibezim as the valid candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the National Assembly by-election held, on December 5, 2020.
Checks revealed that the Imo North Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu of the APC in December 2019.
Further checks revealed that the dispute over candidacy from the APC primary left the APC without a candidate in the December 5, 2020, senatorial election but the party went ahead to poll 36, 811 votes against 31, 903 votes by the PDP in the six local governments of Obowo, Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala Mbano, Ehime Mbano, and Ihitte Uboma.
