Civil service not dead in Kwara ―HOS

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state

KWARA State government has presented promotion letters to six outstanding public servants in the state to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

Speaking during the presentation in Ilorin, the Head of Service (HOS), Hajia Sarah Omar, said that special promotion of civil servants was last held in 2009.
The HOS, who said that civil service was only sleeping and not dead in the state, advised workers in the state to make hardwork their watchword.
“Civil service is not dead and if it is dead, it’s the politicians that’s killing it. They are the ones intruding into the affairs of the service that do not concern them. So they should leave us alone. Issues of service do not concern politicians. They should let us be.
“So, I advise public servants to continue to do all what they know how to do best, because you will reap fruits of all what you do. There’s no atom of good deeds that will go unrewarded just like there’s no atom of bad deed that won’t go unpunished,” she said.
Hajia Omar, who said that criteria used in selecting the awardees included punctuality, hard work, diligence, loyalty and all ethics of civil service, charged all others to wake up from their slumber and wake up to their duty.
“It was because workers were coming late to work that resumption time was changed from 7:30am to 8:00am and yet you still see some people strolling in at about 8:05am. So, this is a clarion call to civil servants so that they wouldn’t allow some people to rubbish civil service as unserious. It’s painful to hear such,” she said.
The awardees, who were promoted from one level to another, expressed their appreciation through Mr A.M. Odetokun of the state road, transport maintenance agency (KWARTMA), pledging to continue to promote ideals of civil service.
