The Kogi State command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said that at least 254 cases were handled by the command in 2016 with 10 sentences secured in the year.
The cases included pipeline vandalism, illegal possession of fire arms, vandalism of electrical installation and other breaches of trust, threat to life and property and house breaking, among others.
The Kogi State commandant of NSCDC, Evaristus Obiyo, who said this while reviewing the command’s activities last year, said 15 out of the cases were fully prosecuted and 10 offenders sentenced.
He added that 40 cases were ongoing in court while 48 were still under investigations as 49 cases were treated and disposed of.
Obiyo also stated that the command, within the year under review, successfully monitored fuel price regime through monitoring of fuel tankers to prevent fuel diversion.
He said, “We destroyed and burnt down illegal refineries at Evie in Ajaokuta Local Government Area. We arrested and prosecuted suspected vandals of armoured cables at Kana, arrested and also prosecuted illegal vandals of transformer in Idah.”
He pointed out that suspected vandals of crude oil at Budan/ Eggan/Labata axis of River Niger were also arrested with speedboat, two boat engines, three pieces of ring hose and 75 litres of crude oil were recovered.
He said the command settled the age long community crises between Ikah-Iregu and the communities in Ibaji local government area of the state.
