THE resident of Sunmaila, Doguwa, Dawakin-Kudu and Tundun-wada local government areas of Kano State, in the months past, have been having sleepless nights as their families have become prey to cattle rustlers who have been tormenting them. Their wives were been raped, their property were been carted away, with large numbers of their cattle stolen.
They have continuously been praying in their mosques and churches for a ‘Messiah’ to come and rescue them from this calamity.
The activity of this cattle rustlers, who have been terrorizing the villagers in the above local government areas of the state had also made many farmers to always ran for dear lives ,whenever they invaded their areas .
Speaking with the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) DSP Magaji Musa Majia over the threat of cattle rustler , the state police command decided to form a Police Anti-Cattle Rustling Squard , Ambush Squad and Tactical Observation points along the 36 km Falgore forest and we have equally deployed adequate and effective specially trained men in all the ransacked and deserted villages surrounding the forest covering Doguwa, Tundun wada, Kibya and Sunmaila LGs of the state .
The ongoing police operation in the stated areas is progressing steadily , besides the restoration of peace in the said forest and the surrounding villages including the 36 km Falgore highway ,
He added that sometimes last year , the state paraded 74 cattle rustlers with 818 cows and 87 sheep recovered from them also disclosed that three cattle rustlers lost their live in a gun duel with security operatives
He noted that they were recovered within the last 30 days of intense bush combing at the Falgore game reserve by a special squad constituted by the Command
He however said that three of the notorious cattle rustlers were killed in a gun duel during the operation while a police officer sustained injury in the process, but have been treated and discharged.
According to him, the police recovered large cache of arms, as some of the suspects were nabbed clad in police and army camouflage which they use to intimidate and rob Fulani herdsmen.
Governor Ganduje while speaking on the occasion described the activities of cattle rustlers as worrisome, noting that, “this is happening as we are yet to get out of the menace of insurgency, but now another frightening dimension of crime has resurfaced, which is alarming.”
Ganduje who was pained that out of the 818 cattle rustlers that were arrested, some of them are Fulanis, urged security agencies to ensure that they face the wrath of the law, while assuring them of the state government’s support in their quest to fish out other suspects involved in cattle rustling.
Governor Ganduje said that already, a Committee has been set up to ensure that the recovered livestock are returned to their rightful owners, adding that those involved in cattle rustling should realize that their days are numbered.
Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi 11 recommended that Islamic law should be applied in the prosecution of the suspects, which include amputation of hands and legs, killing, piecing their body with sticks, life imprisonment or to be exiled
However , the state police command had put a lot of serious efforts to combat the menace of cattle rustling in the state , the Falgore forest were been manned by heavy security operative , who were there at both day and night for checking of in and out of people into the state.
Aside from that various local government areas of the state , have equally engaged the service of vigilante to curtailed the movement of enemies of progress , who always invaded farm land and caused havoc
