President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday arrived in Daura, Katsina State, for a nine-day official visit, which includes celebrating the Eid-el-Kabir with family members, and commissioning of developmental projects.
A statement issued by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), said he was received by Governor Aminu Bello Masari, Deputy Governor Mannir Yakubu and top government officials at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, while the Emir of Daura, Faruk Umar Faruk and members of the Emirate Council welcomed him at the helipad in Daura.
During the visit, President Buhari will commission the Nigerian Air force Reference Hospital in Daura, and some road projects completed by the state government: Shinkafi-Yandaki-Gafia-Abdallawa-Dakaba and Fago-Katsayal-Kwasarawa-Jirdede-Koza.
The President is expected to receive the President of Guinea, Alpha Conde, and also meet with victims of banditry attacks in the Katsina State before returning to Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Adamu, has assured Nigerians of adequate security before, during and after the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
As part of measures toward ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Sallah celebration, the IGP directed all Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) in charge of zones and state commands nationwide to deploy adequate operational manpower and equipment to protect all places of public interest, including: shopping malls, motor parks, financial institutions, places of worship and recreation centres, to enable holiday makers, worshippers and the general public enjoy optimum safety and security during the season.
Force Spokesman, Frank Mba said that the IGP particularly directed that all state Commissioners of Police, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), should put in place strategic and customized security deployment on major highways straddling their Areas of Responsibilities (AOR) to ensure adequate safety for travellers and other road users.
He said that the IGP “heartily expresses goodwill to, and congratulates all Nigerians,” especially the Muslim Ummah, as they join other faithful all over the world, in celebrating this year’s Eid-el Kabir.
While reassuring the public, especially, worshippers, travellers and all well-meaning citizens that the Nigeria police would effectively discharge their constitutional responsibility of providing adequate security for all, the IGP advised Nigerians to, at all times, be security conscious and report promptly, every suspicious movement by individuals or groups to the police or other relevant security agencies.
