The management of Oloibiri Oil and Gas Services Ltd, Bayelsa State, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving N35 billion for the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) to commence the immediate construction of the Oil and Gas Research Centre and Museum in Oloibiri, where oil was first discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria.
The Managing Director of the company Mr. Epereola Amangala, who gave the commendation said when completed, the project would help proffer solutions to the many problems facing the people of the area, especially by providing remediation for farmlands and rivers ravaged by crude oil devastation.

Speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa, Amangala said: “I want to thank President Buhari, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, and the senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Senator Degi Eremienyo for actualising the long awaited Oloibiri oil and gas museum.
“It is a project Oloibiri and other communities where oil exploration have done devastated damage have been waiting for over the years.
“This development has rekindled our hope that 63 years after oil was first struck, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
“The people have been patiently living in penury and darkness for years, hoping for salvation to come their way.The dream of a museum is now in the offing, and for this, we thank God,” he said.
“As an indigenous oil and gas company with long standing experience, Oloibiri Oil and Gas Services Limited is ready to partner with the Federal Government to ensure the realisation of this long awaited project,” he said.
