Executive Vice Chairman of Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), Professor Umar Dambatta, on Monday, disclosed that the fifth-generation network (5G) is perfectly safe for human health.
Professor Dambatta stated this in Abuja during the 2021 budget performance and 2022 budget defence held at the instance of the joint Senate and House Committee on Communication.
While stressing that the technology is good for the economy, he explained that the Commission has embarked on sensitization of the public with a view to embrace them.
He also stated that the World Health Organisation (WHO) and International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has confirmed that the deployment of 5G network, without adverse health effects.
He assured that the 5G “has no effect on human beings. We have tried to sensitize them and make them embrace it. It is good for our economy.
“5G is the next generation of mobile internet connection and will enable internet browsing and data download faster,” he said.
Professor Dambatta advised that the cost of the spectrum should be reduced to enable Nigerians, afford it.
The commission explained that with the use of radio spectrum, many devices will be allowed access to the internet at the same time.
Responding to further questions on cybercrime, the NCC boss stressed that telecommunication operators are secured from cyber attacks of any type.
Chairman and co-Chairman of the joint session, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and Hon Akeem Adeyemi who committee commended NCC on the implementation of the 2021 budget, urged the Commission to ensure proper supervision of its intervention projects especially in Ebonyi and other states of the federation.
The lawmakers also urged the Commission not to pay the contractors of these intervention projects until work is completed.
