Benue, Nasarawa govs meet to end Fulani invasion of Agatu

IN a bid to end the constant crises between Agatu farmers and Fulani herdsmen Benue and Nasarawa state governors have met to put an end to the incessant crises.

Governor Al-Makura of Nasawrawa state who spoke with newsmen in Makurdi yesterday said the two states must work together to end the farmers/herders crises that had claimed so many lives and properties.

He said that though, the issue of Fulani and farmers crisis was not peculiar to Benue,, “It is also happening in Bauchi, Katsina, Plateau, Taraba, Kaduna and other states.”

“That is why we are renewing our commitment towards finding a lasting solution that will bring permanent peace to the crises areas in our dormain.”

Governor Ortom and Nasarawa’s Al-makura met on Tuesday after in a closed door meeting.

Al-makura said that it was agreed that the two governors would stop at nothing until permanent peace is restored and both Fulani and farmers in the two states cohabit peacefully for the overall development of the areas.

According to Al-Makura, “the two governors will be paying a two-day visit to Agatu communities in Benue State between January 18 and 19, 2017, to interact with the people and  get their views so that permanent solution can be put to the crisis.’

He maintained that Nigerians are worried about the current security situation in the country hence, the need for genius forgiveness and admonish one another in order to proffering solutions to the issues causing disaffection among the people.

Agatu communities have been vulnerable to Fulani invasion due to its border with Nasarawa state where where the herdsmen always used as launch pad to invade Agatu people.
