Benue govt seeks Israel’s support to boost education

The Benue State Government is seeking the support of the Israeli government in the area of neurotechnology for enhanced monitoring and evaluation.

The Director-General of the Bureau, Dr. Terna Francis, who received the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, and the Governor of the State, Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, at the bureau on Friday, said it was a “follow-up on his ongoing discussion on Israel’s support in the area of neurotechnology for enhanced monitoring and evaluation.”

The DG narrated the issues discovered in some schools across the state during his visit, among them poor learning outcomes among students.

He attributed this partly to truancy on the part of teachers, resulting from inadequate monitoring.

Due to this, the DG informed his visitors of the need to procure neurotechnology, stating that the technology, when deployed in the state, would help enhance monitoring without the necessity of being physically present in the field. It would also improve teaching and learning outcomes.

He stated that he had visited about 1,680 schools over the past 15 months of his tenure at BEQA, covering various local government areas in the state. He discovered that poor learning outcomes among children were partly due to teachers’ truancy resulting from poor monitoring.

The DG described the governor’s visit to the bureau as a commitment to enhancing quality education at the basic and post-basic levels in the state.

The Israeli Ambassador, however, pledged to prioritize the education of Benue children by supporting the provision of innovative technology and ICT in schools.

BEQA’s Director-General took the team around the offices on an inspection tour, explaining the role of BEQA in boosting the quality of education in the state.

The Benue State Bureau for Education Quality Assurance is responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and standardizing basic and post-basic schools in Benue State.
