A Benin socio-cultural group, Ogbakha-Edo Indigenous Peoples’ Welfare Foundation, has assured the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Edoba Omoregie (SAN), of its unwavering support to ensure the success of his tenure.
The chairman of the group, Professor Sam Guobadia, gave this assurance during a courtesy visit to Professor Omoregie, who was inaugurated as the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of the university on December 2, 2024.
Guobadia stated, “We are glad and proud that the Ogbakha-Edo platform is yours, and you have always exemplified this through your actions. We also want to emphasize, as they say in America, that we’ve got your back. I want to stress that we stand firmly behind you, day and night. This is a morale booster for us, and we are truly celebrating.”

In an official letter addressed to Professor Omoregie, the group wrote:
“Your vision, expertise, and passion for innovative education will undoubtedly propel the University of Benin to greater heights. Your commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment, promoting research, and enhancing community engagement will have a profound impact on students, faculty, and the broader academic community.
“As you embark on this new role, we wish you continued success, wisdom, and inspiration. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of the University of Benin and inspiring the next generation of leaders.”
In response, Professor Omoregie described his appointment as a call to duty, adding that the group, through its activities, has sufficiently prepared him for the challenges ahead. He outlined his agenda, which focuses on sustaining and improving the academic profile of the university, transforming the institution into a hub for skills acquisition, prioritizing the welfare of students and staff, advancing infrastructure development, and maintaining peaceful relations between management, students, and host communities.
