The Chief Executive Officer of Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, has advised consumers against the use of untested, uncertified and unapproved procedures, which may result in permanent injury.
Giving this advice in Lagos, after the agency, in collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), had conducted a joint operation at a skincare facility in Surulere, Lagos, after previous surveillance at the facility, urged consumers to therefore proceed with ‘abundance of caution and circumspection’ when considering skincare and other beauty treatment.
He explained that the agency carried out the raid on the facility after it received multiple credible information about possible inappropriate/hazardous beauty treatment (including a purported “instant body wash”) occurring at the location.
During the dawn raid, operatives removed different skin care products and chemicals for laboratory analysis and ordered an interim suspension of operation, and use of unapproved products/chemicals and procedures.
Irukera however assured the public that “further investigative actions are ongoing”.
