Be tolerant of other faiths, Itire-Ikate LCDA chair charges traditionalists

Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, has charged custodians and adherents of tradition to continue to be tolerant of other faiths as they strive to preserve Yoruba cultural heritage.

He described Isese Day celebration as the preservation of Yoruba cultural heritage and traditions.

He commended the Lagos State government for setting aside August 20 of every year to commemorate Isese Day as a significant cultural event.

Speaking on this year’s celebration, Apatira said the day is significant to honouring the contributions of our ancestors and the rich Yoruba cultural heritage.

The council boss also acknowledged the invaluable input of progenitors whose legacy continues to shape identity and guide progress.

He said: “I express my respect for the traditions and customs of Lagos State, Itire-Ikate and Ijeshatedo division. I appreciate the dedication and commitment of those who have worked to keep the rich heritage alive.

“I also salute the custodians of culture and Yoruba tradition, who have selflessly preserved traditions and customs for generations. I acknowledge their efforts in ensuring the continuation of the Yoruba-rich cultural and traditional heritage.

“On this day, as we celebrate this year’s Isese Day and promote cultural awareness, I want us to be tolerant of others and continue to live in peace to ensure a brighter future for generations to come.”

Apatira reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives and programmes that promote community unity and heritage preservation in line with the Lagos State government’s efforts to promote cultural diversity and heritage.
