Bauchi State Government is to host the first-ever North-East Climate Change Conference with critical stakeholders as participants.
State Commissioner for Environment and Housing, Alhaji Hamisu Mu’azu Shira announced this while briefing Government House Correspondents on the activities embarked upon by the Ministry.
The Commissioner said that during the conference, participants are expected to draw the attention of the International Community on the areas that need their immediate intervention.
Hamisu Mu’azu Shira also said that participants at the conference include among others, Commissioners of Environment from the North-East and other critical stakeholders in the sector so as to overcome the environmental challenges affecting the region.
According to him, the Ministry will use its resources to host the conference without seeking any financial support from Governor Bala Mohammed.
Hamisu Shira said, ” For the first time in the history of the North East, Bauchi State will host Commissioners of Environment from the zone to converge in Bauchi to discuss problems of waste and other environmental challenges in the region”.
He added that ” The good thing of this conference is that our Ministry will host it without writing any memo to the His Excellency requesting for his support”.
The Commissioner expressed confidence that the outcome of the conference will be beneficial to the citizens, the government of the state, northeast and Nigeria in general.

He said with the little resources, the Ministry has recorded remarkable achievements, assuring that the Ministry will work with Donor Agencies to convert the waste in the state to wealth.
The Commissioner said the move would provide employment opportunities to unemployed youth in addition to boosting the Internally Generated Revenue.
He noted that the 28 million naira released to the Ministry by Governor Bala Mohammed is for the reactivation of facilities and the construction of 6 waste collection centres in Bauchi metropolis.
He requested the corporate bodies working in the state to join hands with the present administration by planting trees in the roundabout to enable the state to become a modern city.
Hamisu Mu’azu Shira said with the support of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, the Ministry will constitute a Local Government Sanitation Committee to ensure sanitation of environment at the grassroots.
He said, ” Let me use this medium to appeal to our colleagues in the cabinet especially we the Commissioners rather than forwarding our memos to the Governor is better for us to look inward and source for other means of accessing funding”.
“This will enable him to meet the huge expectations of the citizens of the state who voted him into power. This will no doubt enable our governor to become the best governor in the country”, he added.
On the housing sector, the Commissioner said that apart from the government’s plans to construct 2, 500 housing units, the state government will assiduously to come up with other developmental projects.
