CHIEF Medical Director (CMD), of the Bauchi State Specialists Hospital, Dr Hameed Suleiman has explained that the Management embarked on verification of the number of staff in order to have an accurate figure of the workforce.
The CMD disclosed this while speaking with Journalists his office stating that the purpose was to address the problem of redundancy in the hospital just as he explained that the committee which had already submitted its report, verified every worker in order to know their areas of strength and weaknesses as it relates to their performances.
The CMD allayed fears that the exercise was to witch-hunt any worker but rather to improve service delivery adding that it was an irony that the hospital has 700 staff but most of them are not required.

He also stated that the exercise would address the possibility or the need to transfer those whose services are not required to other areas within the health sector of the state for them to perform better.
The CMD exclaimed that in some units of the hospital, 150 workers were doing the work that requires only 30 workers to do same.
He said: “We have a northeast problem of redundant staff that are not critical to patients and these workers tend to cheat patients who complain of exorbitant fees which the management of the hospital never charge.”
“Despite our modern and sophisticated equipment and our affordable services, Â which are the lower northeast, Â some of our staff are inflating the user fees and we need to stop this,” he added.
Dr Hammeed Suleiman also said that following the completion of the committee’s assignment, the next thing is to convene a management staff meeting where the report would be studied, and recommendations would be submitted to the Board of the Hospital for review and implementation.
Dr Suleiman, however, lamented that Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, was suffering from a water dearth of specialised personnel disclosing that a Specialist Hospital should have at least 10 Specialists but Bauchi has only two.
The CMD said they have approached the State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar waiver to employ more specialists adding that the hospital is making plans to get accreditation to have more Resident Medical Doctors.
He said the state government has approved the construction of a two story building within the premises of the hospital to accommodate officers, a criteria for registration and accreditation assuring that, “We have sorted out the requirements and soon it would scale through.”
