Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has reiterated that his administration remains committed to prioritising agriculture for grassroots development and entrepreneurial growth.
The Governor also said that the main focus of the administration in the area of agriculture is to promote food production and security through arable farming across the state which is blessed with arable forests.
The Governor was speaking on Tuesday during an interactive session with a delegation from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), led by state acting branch controller, Mr. Jonathan Laburta, at the Government House, Bauchi.
Bala Mohammed emphasised the importance of agriculture in achieving sustainable food security, economic growth, development and job opportunities.
According to him, by prioritizing agriculture, the state government aims to empower farmers, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
Bala Mohammed also announced that the state government has agreed to reduce workers’ working days to enable them to tend to their farms, thereby boosting food production and ensuring sustainable food security.
He highlighted the administration’s efforts in constructing rural roads to connect farmers to accessible transportation networks, as well as training and retraining extension workers in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance crop yields.
The Governor acknowledged the impact of Federal Government agricultural initiatives, which he said complemented the state’s efforts to revitalize the agricultural sector.
He commended the CBN for its intervention in the agricultural sector, stating that it has brought new hope and prosperity to the sector across all tiers of government.
Earlier, leader of the delegation, Jonathan Laburta, who is the Acting Branch Controller of the CBN, confirmed that Bauchi State was one of the earliest States to commence the distribution of CBN-intervened fertilizers.
He assured that the apex bank would continue to support agricultural initiatives for the benefit of both states and the federation.
The CBN branch controller added that the Governor’s commitment to agriculture is a testament to his administration’s dedication to grassroots development and entrepreneurial growth.
According to him With the support of the CBN and other partners, the state is poised to make significant strides in agricultural development, setting an example for other states to follow.
