Bauchi State Government has pledged to provide the required logistics support for the sustenance of the Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the state.
The assurance was given by the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on Tuesday while flagging off the distribution of commodities for the programme in Bauchi.
The Governor said that Bauchi State being the leading state in the country in the area of out of school children, the was the need for his administration to key into all programmes geared towards addressing the situation which has become necessary.
He also expressed optimism that the School Feeding Programme will assist in improving the education sector, as the sector is the only remedy for addressing societal challenges.
The Governor who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Nasiru Yalwa, warned the vendors handing the programme against diverting the distributed commodities declaring that anyone found wanting will be prosecuted.
Abraham Sunday from the National Social Investment Programme Office in Abuja, noted that President Muhammadu Buhari has provided all the needed support for the sustenance of the programme in the country.
On his part, the Chairman of Suppliers for the Home Grown School Feeding Programme in the state, Alhaji Usman Muhammad said that the introduction of the programme has provided job opportunities for both men and women.
Usman Muhammad appealed to the state government to as a matter of urgency extend the programme to Junior Secondary Schools in order to improve enrollment of children in school.
The State Programme Manager, Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Sani recalled that about four thousand thousand primary school pupils are currently benefiting from the programme in the state.
